Onlays

What is an onlay?

An onlay or overlay is a covering designed and manufactured by our skilled technician in a laboratory specifically to fit your tooth.

Why do I need an Onlay?

Once a tooth has been broken or damaged beyond a certain point, placing an onlay helps to give better function, appearance, and lifespan compared to a filling. It also involves less damage compared to a conventional crown.

How does it work?

Anaesthetic

Our dental professional will give you a pain-free numbing injection (optional).

Reshaping

We will then remove the damaged parts, clean the toother and reshape it.

Core

We may add to your tooth to make the final shape just right.

Impression

Next we take a putty impression to send to our laboratory technician.

Temporising

Finally we will fit a temporary onlay and take a few shades for the design of your new tooth.

Fit

2 weeks later we will see you to remove the temporary onlay and fit the final onlay.

What to expect?

Initial sensitivity
Initial difference in your bite
Average lifespan of 5-10 years
